August 22-24th marked the 2003 Roach Family Reunion. The weekend was full of family, fun, and the usual Roach InsanityTM

The insanity of the Roach Clan

Looking towards a bright future in Flint, MI The TOTAL Experience. Roach Motel. No Vacancy. (Except to Cash Only Payers) We were gathering to celebrate my sister's graduation from the University of Connecticut with her PhD in English Literature and Composition with much administrative experience too. Steph will now be working at the University of Michigan at Flint.

After visiting the University of Michigan at Flint and Steph's new apartment, we headed south to the main gathering point at Doug's home. We were greeted with hugs and the usual bit of Roach humor. See picture to the right After settling in and all, it was time to get some grub. YEA!!! Food! Tasty lasagna was had by all.
Welcome Dr. Stephanie
First was a celebration for my sister's graduation. Most of the Roach clan was unable to attend her graduation proper due to lack of seating and places for people to stay. So lovely decorations were placed and a very tasty cake was provided for all to enjoy.
Busting out on your own
It begins....Cynid and Suzy Now, the Roach family can never have just a quiet, relaxing weekend together. It has to spiced up with some competition. T-shirts were distributed to seperate the family into three teams. Green, Orange and Blue. Each T-shirt displayed the following quote from the late Robert James Roach:
"You don't have to be crazy to be in the family but it sure helps..." (R.J. Roach)

Bowling After breakfast, we all headed to the local bowling alley to play. Our teams bowled two games. Two really nifty things happened. After the first game, two of the three lanes had the same combined score of 470. After the second game, two people had the same individual score of 106. I think I bowled my best first game ever at 134 (or at least I think it was something like that). The blue team was victorious after the first game. The orange team slaughtered everyone in the second game. The green team had the two highest scores from both games.
waRshers The fun didn't stop there. After refueling at home, some of us rode dirt bikes up and down the street while others played WaRshers in the backyard. And believe it or not, I did ride the bike up and down the road a few times. I have to say, motorcycles are not my thing. On the other hand, my cousin Cyndi is a real biker chick, motoring along the street for a good while.
*gasp* It's me on a motorbike The 'Biker Chick'

Of course you can't have a reunion without a family portrait. That just wouldn't be right.

The first victims I mean contestanst of Chubby Bunny The activities continued into the evening with the playing of Chubby Bunny, an exercise to see how large one's mouth is. Essentially you have to put a marshmallow in your mouth and say "Chubby Bunny". After everyone says it another marshmallow is added until noone can say "chubby bunny" clearly enough. You are not allowed to chew or swallow the marshmallows. Holden, Steph and Frank were up first. Holden and Steph had an astounding 11 marshmallows each. Holden, and the blue team being the victor of the first round. This praticular activity made me very ill and I headed off.
Sunday was the last day together. A tasty breakfast followed by church. Of course one more meal together before it was time for the Pennsylvania Roaches to pack up and depart. *hugs to everyone*
