FFXI Fishing Gear

I'd been wanting to do a costume from FFXI for quite some time. Almost everyone did some for of Artifact Armor usually PLD or WHM. I decided to be different and go for Fishing gear. I am very proud of this costume. This is one of the few I've made completely from scratch.
The top was made per Simplicity 5098. The pattern was perfect because it had two different sleeve lengths. The extra black sleeves were from an old turtle neck. Additional modifications such as the collar, neck slit, belt and trim were added. The pants were made per *pattern i can't remember right now*. I added a special velcro pouch in the back of the pants for a secure place to attach a tail if so desired. My attempts at making gloves failed miserably. I had to resort to cutting off fingers of existing gloves and attaching the aditional trim. Tail was my best attempt. Ears are triangles attached to barrettes.
The boots deserve their own paragraph. I have never been a fan of boot covers. I've always felt they looked bad. I was certain I would be unable to obtain boots to match. On a lucky day I found some cheap flats at pay-less that would be a perfect base for custom shoes. Next were boot covers. I cut out standard boot covers with trial fabric, hemmed the bottom and pinned it to a shoe. After some modifications, the design was complete. The light tan was cut and lined with bias tape before incorporation to the main boot. The top trim was actually based on the collar from the shirt pattern. After assembly, the covers were hemmed and hand stitched onto the shoes. Hot glue was used in places that were too hard to put a needle through. Many thanks to my mom for completing this crazy task of attaching the covers to the shoes. The laces are ribbon, hand stitched into place. Unfortunately they wouldn't stay up on their own. some elastic loops and buttons on the pants provided the perfect solution. Finally I had a pair of custom boots.
TJ helped me with the bucket and pole. In FFXI, fishing rods are collapseable. I found the perfect pole in a 6ft golf ball retreiver. TJ painted the "rod" and "rusty" bucket. The adorable crab was found in the Inner Harbor. ~_^
